LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– SCDOT will temporarily close and detour the Calks Ferry Road bridge in Lexington County over I-20 beginning at 7 p.m. on Thursday, say officials.

South Carolina Department of Transportation says the bridge’s closure will last overnight, and the bridge will reopen at 7 a.m. on Friday, May 23.

Following a detailed inspection, SCDOT says structural issues with a portion of the bridge was found.

Tonight’s closure will allow maintenance forces to shift traffic to one side of the bridge away from the side of the bridge that needs repairs.

During the overnight closure, traffic will be detoured onto Sherwood Road to Longs Pond Road to Two Notch Road.

When the bridge reopens tomorrow, there will be traffic control measures in place until repairs begin.

SCDOT expects the repairs to begin later this summer.

Drivers are asked to seek alternate routes, if possible and expect delays during the closures.

Additionally, drivers are asked to slow down and pay attention when driving near the work zone.
