RCSD: Man arrested, accused of displaying counterfeit license plate on vehicle
RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott says a man has been arrested after a traffic stop on Thursday.
The sheriff’s department says around 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 22, deputies made a traffic stop in the 9500 block of Two Notch Road on a vehicle displaying a counterfeit license plate.
During the stop, deputies learned that the vehicle was also not registered.
RCSD says the license plate on the vehicle displayed a USDOT designation, followed by a series of numbers and “Not for Hire”.
This type of counterfeit plate is typical for individuals claiming to be “sovereign citizens” to display, and often, when deputies encounter these types of plates, the vehicle is also not registered, according to the sheriff’s dept.
The driver who was identified as Devonte Arthur was arrested and charged with operating an unregistered vehicle and operating a vehicle with a counterfeit license plate.
