SC governor holds hurricane tabletop exercise

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– South Carolina Emergency Management Division and other agencies will take part in the governor’s hurricane tabletop exercise on Thursday, June 5.

The purpose of the event is to test and practice emergency operations plans before a hurricane threatens South Carolina.

On, Wednesday, June 4, the State Department of Public Safety and other agencies conducted a full-scale hurricane evacuation exercise to test lane reversals in coastal areas.

Last year (2024), emergency officials say Hurricane Helene killed 49 people in South Carolina.

Which made it the deadliest hurricane to hit the state since Hurricane Hugo in 1989.
