Sumter man accused of holding victim against their will is charged with kidnapping
Sumter, SC (WOLO) –The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office says they have arrested a man accused of holding a person inside of a residence against their will. According to authorities, 41 year old Ronald Lemar Brockington was involved in a domestic violence situation when deputies say he refused to let the victim leave a Greenville Circle home Monday night.
Deputies tell us the victim who contacted them claimed they were bleeding and afraid Brockington was intending to kill them. Deputies arrived at the home around 10 p.m. where they asked Brockington about the victim which he said was not in the home, and that he had not seen them in a week. After consenting to a search of his home, deputies say the located the victim in a bedroom with serious injuries they believed were consistent with an assault. That individual was removed from the home and taken to Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital for treatment.
Brockington has been arrested and charged with Kidnapping, and first degree Domestic Violence. He remains at the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center where his bond has been denied.
Sheriff Dennis released a brief statement concerning the incident commending officers for their quickly removing the victim from the home saying,
“If not for the prompt and effective response of these officers, this could have had a much worse outcome. I hope this sends a message to anyone suffering from domestic abuse that there is help available.”
