Gas prices in South Carolina drop by 4.1 cents, reaching $2.70 average per gallon
(WCIV) — The average price of gas in South Carolina dropped in the past week, falling 4.1 cents, and establishing a new average cost of gas in the state at $2.70 per gallon Monday.
Despite this drop, prices are unchanged compared to a month ago, however they are in fact 34.6 cents per gallon lower than a year ago, according to GasBuddy price reports.
They report that the cheapest station in South Carolina was priced at $2.38 per gallon Sunday and the most expensive was $3.49 per gallon, the difference between the two being a whopping $1.11 per gallon difference.
Meanwhile the national average price of gas also fell, though a less significant amount at 1.8 cents per gallon. The average price of gas nationally sits at $3.07 per gallon Monday.
“Average gas prices declined in nearly all states over the last week as refineries ramped up output and gasoline supplies surged,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.
According to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country, the national average is down 5.2 cents per gallon from a month ago and is overall 32.8 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.
“While a few states experienced price cycling—a pattern where prices drop sharply and then spike every couple of weeks—the overall gentle downward trend is typical as summer progresses. If oil prices continue to rise gradually, it could eventually impact gas prices, but for now, we likely won’t see any major shifts at the pump in most areas this week,” said De Haan.
