ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell says a routine traffic stop led to drugs and weapons being seized.
Deputies say more than 154 grams was located in the vehicle during the traffic stop.
The traffic stop was made by the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Community Response Team (CRT) on June 2 after deputies say the driver failed to maintain his lane.
“This was just good observation and paying attention to what’s going on. The traffic stop was just a regular stop until the CRT team saw what was in the car,” the sheriff said.
When the initial CRT deputy approached the vehicle, he called for backup after spotting a handgun in the car.
A further search of the vehicle turned up another handgun, ammunition, a scale, and 18 multi-colored packages of marijuana, according to OCSO.
The driver of the vehicle was given a ticket for failing to maintain his lane and no proof of insurance.
