Senator, attorney challenge injunction used to fast track lawmaker raises

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– A state senator and a Midlands attorney have filed a legal challenge against the recently passed raise for lawmakers.

Monday, June 9, York County Republican Wes Climer and Attorney Dick Harpootlian announced they have filed a legal challenge against an injunction they say was used to fast-track a ruling on whether or not the increase was constitutional.

During the last legislative session lawmakers approved an increase of $1500 a month to use on in-district expenses.

If the challenge is successful, the court will file an injunction prohibiting the state treasurer from distributing the funds.
