Man arrested after alleged assault with firearm, deputies say

SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– A man was arrested after an alleged shooting and assault on Monday night, said deputies.

Sumter County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to reports about gunshots in the Wessex Drive area around 9 p.m.

When deputies arrived to the scene, they found a victim who had been assaulted and sustained injuries.

The victim was taken to Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital by Emergency Medical Services.

Witnesses told investigators that Chancy Green came to the Wessex Drive address, fired shots and assaulted the victim with a firearm, according to SCSO.

Also, witnesses said a physical altercation between Green and the victim happened.

After interviewing witnesses and examining evidence, Sumter County deputies arrested Green.

He was first taken to Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital for treatment of injuries, then released, and taken to the Sumter County Detention Center, where he awaits a bond hearing.

Green was charged with assault & battery of a high & aggravated nature.

The investigation is ongoing.
