RCSD deputy, Sedan driver hit during traffic stop

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– A Sedan driver and a Richland County deputy has been hit during a traffic stop in the Two Notch Road and Polo Road area, says RCSD.

Richland County Sheriff’s Department says Richland County Deputy Muhammad initiated a traffic stop on a burgundy Sedan with no displayed license plate when both the deputy and the Sedan driver was hit by another car.

Around 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 10, both Deputy Muhammad and the Sedan driver were in their vehicles when a black Acura hit the Sedan driver’s vehicle head-on, colliding with Deputy Muhammad’s patrol car.

The Sedan driver and Deputy Muhammad were treated on scene by EMS, according to RCSD.

An investigation into the collision will be conducted by South Carolina Highway Patrol.

“We are extremely fortunate that both the driver that was pulled over and our deputy will be okay. This is yet another reminder of the dangers that our deputies encounter on a daily basis. When you see flashing lights, slow down and, if possible, move over,” says Sheriff Leon Lott.
