Newberry County Sheriff’s Office issues warning about SCDMV scam text

NEWBERRY COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– There is an old text message scam circulating here in the Midlands.

The Newberry County Sheriff’s Office says they have received a number of calls about a text message from the SCDMV.

The message tells people they either owe a toll fee or need to pay a fine.

SCDMV does not use this method to communicate with customers, says NCSO.

Deputies say the scam is hitting several states and is most likely coming out of the Philippines.
