Infant safely surrendered at hospital under Safe Haven Act
RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Officials with Prisma Health Children’s Hospital-Midlands says infant was safely surrendered under Daniel’s Law on Saturday.
June 14, the hospital accepted an Indian American baby girl that was born on May 7.
Under the Safe Haven for Abandoned Babies Act, Richland County DSS took custody of the child, and the infant is being medically evaluated before being discharged to a licensed foster home, say officials.
A Permanency Planning Hearing and Termination of Parental Rights Hearing will be held on August 3, 2025 at 9:30 a.m. in Richland County Family Court.
Persons who believe they have parental rights to this child are required to attend the hearing to assert those rights, according to SCDSS.
