Richland County Coroner’s Office held 4th annual Coroner’s Cadet Program
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– The Richland County Coroner’s Office held its fourth annual Coroner’s Cadet Program at their location on Shakespeare Road in Columbia.
Richland County Coroner Naida Rutherford says students are able to learn about an “death investigation” and crime scene assessment in an age appropriate way.
Affectionately called “The Body Farm,” they are educated on the decomposition of a body and the use of entomology, or bugs, to determine the time of someone’s death.
But don’t worry, no human bodies are used for the free course as dead chickens are substituted instead.
And while chickens were used in place of bodies, the students did, however, have the opportunity to dissect a human eyeball.
