Lexington Police helping community cool down for Summer

LEXINGTON, S.C. (WOLO)– With the first week of summer bringing the heat to the Midlands, Lexington Police Department is helping the community stay cool.

Lexington Police Chief Terrence Green is reminding the Town of Lexington community that the department is offering free box-style fans for those who need a way to cool down during the hot South Carolina summer months.

Even though the program (Operation: Cool Down) was created to assist Town of Lexington residents in need, when possible box fans have been given to those in the greater Midlands area too, said LPD.

If you live outside of the Town of Lexington, it is recommended that you first contact your local police department or sheriff’s department to see if they have a similar program.

Anyone in need of a box fan should go to the Lexington Police Department located at 111 Maiden Lane in Lexington for assistance during weekday business hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

If a Town of Lexington resident has transportation issues, a Community Action Team (C.A.T.) officer may be able to take a box fan to them at their home.

For all box fans given away, an acceptance and release of liability form must be completed.

Contact Sergeant Cameron Mortenson of the Community Action Team with questions at 803-358-1504 or cmortenson@lexsc.gov.
