Several people injured after lightning strike in Dominion Beach area

 

 

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– According to officials, 18 people have been injured after a lightning strike in Dominion Beach area around 5 p.m.

Vanessa Diaz with Lexington County Fire Department confirms that 6 adults and 12 children were injured, and taken to a local hospital.

 

Update: (Tuesday 6:30 p.m.) A lightning strike on a Lake Murray Beach sent several kids and parents to hospitals.
The incident happened at Dominion Beach around 5pm Tuesday evening.

Officials say lightning hit the water and it energized a metal cable with buoys on it, that surrounds the swimming area. Several people were swimming out by the buoys and were holding onto the cable when it hit. Everyone got quite a jolt and there were no deaths. The latest update from Prisma Health says 5 adults and 8 children were released after being treated. While 2 remain in the hospital.
