RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott is announcing that a former deputy has been arrested on charges of misconduct in office.

On June 19, it was brought to the attention of Richland County investigators that Christopher Moore, 29, had used his position to gain a personal relationship, says RCSD.

An investigation revealed that while employed as a deputy with the sheriff’s department; Moore conducted a traffic stop and got a female’s personal information.

The investigation also revealed that he used it to communicate with her personally .

Law enforcement say the communication happened on his department cell phone.

Moore was terminated on Friday, June 20, and Tuesday, June 24 he was arrested and charged with misconduct in office.

He booked at the Alvin S. Glen Detention Center.

Moore was with the sheriff’s department for about 18 months, serving as a community action team deputy.

“It’s incidents like this that lead to mistrust in police and I will not tolerate it. We have so many good deputies and it angers me to have one amongst us that has betrayed the community’s trust; but rest assure that I will hold my deputies who break the law accountable,” Sheriff Lott says.
