Man accused of assault arrested after being found naked in tree, deputies say

SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– A Sumter man accused of assaulting a resident inside a home early Wednesday morning was arrested after deputies found him hiding naked in a tree, says the sheriff’s office.

Deputies responded at about 2:11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 2, after Sumter County Dispatch received a report of an assault at a home on Paige Drive.

Witnesses told Sumter County deputies that Kelly Jack Breland and another resident were arguing when Breland allegedly became violent, assaulted another individual, and then left the home without clothing.

After a brief search, deputies found Breland hiding in a tree nearby.

He was taken into custody without incident.

Breland was arrested and charged with second-degree assault and battery and third-degree domestic violence.

He was taken to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center, where he is being held on a $25,000 bond.
