SCSO: New York resident arrested after traffic stop leads to marijuana trafficking charge

 

SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– A New York resident has been arrested after a Thursday afternoon traffic stop led to deputies finding marijuana in his vehicle, said SCSO.

Deputies say they conducted a traffic stop after 59-year-old Eyian Robotham was seen speeding on Highway 341 on Thursday, July 17, around 4:40 p.m.

A K9 officer that was requested to be at the scene, alerted deputies to the presence of narcotics and a search of the vehicle uncovered 36 pounds of suspected marijuana.

According to deputies, Robotham is a New York resident that was living in the U.S. illegally.

He was taken to the Sumter County Detention Center to be held on a trafficking charge.

Officials said he is also being detained for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
