South Carolina gas prices buck national trend, rise 1.5 cents despite falling oil costs

The average price of gas in South Carolina rose slightly in the past week, defying the national average, which fell alongside dropping oil costs.

Gas prices in the state rose 1.5 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging at a total of $2.77 per gallon Monday, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 3,028 stations in South Carolina.

Overall, prices are trending at 8.7 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and, more significantly, stand 36.0 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.

According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in South Carolina was priced at $2.49 per gallon Sunday while the most expensive was $3.60 per gallon, a difference of $1.11 per gallon.

Nationally, the average price of gas fell 1.7 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging at approximately $3.09 per gallon Monday.

The national average is down 11.5 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 37.7 cents per gallon lower than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country.
