Steel, aluminum tariffs take effect

(CNN)– President Trump’s 50% tariff on steel and aluminum imports has taken effect.

More than 400 categories of common items that contain steel and aluminum are now more expensive to import to the United States.

Baby strollers, spray deodorants, and fire extinguishers are among the items affected.

U.S. based importers are now in a tough position.

If they accept goods they have already paid for that are currently in transit, they will have to pay those higher tariffs.

But if they decide to stop shipments, they will likely lose money.
