24-year-old arrested in connection with Monday shooting

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Fairfield County deputies say a 24-year-old has been arrested in connection with a Monday shooting.

Desmond James is being charged with one count of attempted murder, one count of assault and battery 1st degree, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and failure to stop for a blue light.

The sheriff’s office says deputies responded to reports of shots fired near a home in the Lake Monticello community where witnesses stated a person in a black Dodge Neon left the scene on Monday, Oct. 13.

Deputies quickly located the vehicle and initiated a brief pursuit before the driver surrendered without further incident.

Spent shell casings were seen inside the vehicle, according to deputies.

At the scene, victims reported that James stopped in front of the victims driveway and fired multiple rounds from his vehicle, hitting the victim’s car.

A witness also confirmed to deputies that James as the driver involved in the shooting.

During an interview at the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office, James waived his rights and admitted to firing shots at the victims, say deputies.

James told investigators that an earlier verbal altercation between him and one of the victims had escalated after he allegedly threw trash at his vehicle.

He was taken into custody and then taken to the Fairfield County Detention Center, where he awaits a bond hearing.

This incident remains under investigation by the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office.
