CPD investigating overnight fatal apartment complex shooting

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Columbia Police Department is investigating a fatal overnight shooting that happened at an apartment complex, said police.
Chief W.H. “Skip” Holbrook says, shortly before 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 15, officers were called to the Columbia Garden Apartments at 4000 Plowden Road for a report of
a male being hit by gunfire.
When officers arrived to the scene they found an unresponsive male outside the complex with a gunshot wound and performed CPR until EMS arrived.
The victim was identified by the Richland County Coroner’s Office as 29-year-old Devonte Redmond of Columbia.
After a search at the crime scene, officers and a K-9 team found and collected evidence to help with the investigation, according to CPD.
