SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Sumter County deputies are investigating a reported assault that happened at a high school, said deputies.

The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office has opened an investigation into a report alleging that a staff member assaulted a special needs student at Lakewood High School.

On Tuesday afternoon, October 14, the sheriff’s office received a call reporting that the alleged incident occurred on September 10, 2025.

Deputies began the investigation after receiving the report.

“This is a disturbing report, and we will thoroughly investigate it to determine the facts. Our response will be guided by the results of that investigation,” Sheriff Anthony Dennis said.
