SCDPH updates public on confirmed measles outbreak
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– The South Carolina Department of Public Health has updated the number of confirmed measles cases to 16.
12 of those cases are directly linked to an ongoing outbreak in Spartanburg County.
Officials say the five new cases are the result of individuals who were exposed in previously identified school settings and have been quarantining at home.
Because they were quarantining before they became infectious no additional exposures occurred with these new cases.
They encourage you to get the measles vaccine which is over 97% effective at preventing infection.
The state health department has set up a website tracking the measles in South Carolina.
