CCU erases 14-Point deficit, beats App State for fourth straight year

BOONE, N.C. – Despite trailing for most of the game, Coastal Carolina rallied from a 14-point second-half deficit to defeat App State, 45-37.

Dominic Knicely’s 1-yard touchdown run with 3:19 remaining tied the game at 37. Kian Afrookhteh’s extra point gave the Chanticleers their first lead of the night. Jevon Edwards then added insurance with an eight-yard touchdown run with 1:56 left, extending Coastal’s lead to eight.

App State’s final drive ended with a strip sack by Zeke Campbell, recovered by Noah Arinze, sealing the win for the Chants.

With the victory, Coastal Carolina improves to 4-3 overall and 3-1 in Sun Belt Conference play.

Quarterback Samari Collier paced the Chanticleers with a game-high 73 rushing yards and two touchdowns. He also threw for 118 yards, including a 37-yard touchdown strike to Jameson TuckerMJ Morris added another touchdown pass in the win.Ground & Pound

For the second consecutive game, Coastal’s offense rushed for over 200 yards, finishing with 246 on the ground. It’s the third time this season the Chants have eclipsed 200 rushing yards. CCU is now 4-0 when rushing for at least 100 yards.
Living in the Backfield

Ibrahim Diawara was a disruptive force, tallying three of Coastal’s seven tackles for loss. He finished with four total tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble. Defensive back Ja’Marion Wayne led all players with a game-high 11 tackles.Next Up

Coastal Carolina enters its second bye week of the season. The Chanticleers return to action on Thursday, Oct. 30, when they host Marshall at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
