RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Sheriff Leon Lott says a man has been arrested following two carjacking incidents that led to one fatality.
On Saturday, October 18, around 12:30 p.m., deputies responded to the area of Pine Grove Road and Piney Woods Road in reference to two carjackings and a wreck.
When deputies arrived to the scene, they located Zee Zelazurro inside of a wrecked vehicle, as well one adult male dead at the scene, according to RCSD.
Two additional victims, one a juvenile were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The sheriff’s dept. says the two victims were alive at the time they were taken to the hospital.
Zelazurro was also taken to a local hospital for treatment as well.
An investigation revealed Zelazurro carjacked two separate individuals at gunpoint in the Piney Grove and Piney Woods area.
Deputies say during the first carjacking, Zelazurro fired into the occupied vehicle.
The victim of the first carjacking was not hit by gunfire.
After taking the car, Zelazurro went up Piney Grove and hit a white truck. Both vehicles were disabled by the collisions.
Investigators say after the collision Zelazurro left the scene on foot and proceeded to carjack a second vehicle.
After taking the second car, Zelazurro went back in the direction he came towards the initial wreck with the white truck.
As Zelazurro approached the initial wreck, he lost control and wrecked, rolling over and hitting the driver of the white truck who had gotten out of his vehicle, say deputies.
The driver of the white truck died at the scene.
Zelazzuro is being charged with reckless homicide, two counts of carjacking, two counts of possession of a weapon during a violent crime, discharging firearm into an occupied vehicle, and assault and battery first degree.
When Zelazurro is released from the hospital, he will be taken to Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
Columbia Police Department is investigating the two collisions.
