Woman sues Tru by Hilton, accuses estranged husband of getting room
ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– A Midlands teacher has filed a lawsuit against a major hotel chain after her attorney says she was kidnapped and assaulted by her estranged husband.
Attorney Justin Bamberg is representing Latasha Brown.
Bamberg says on September 20 of 2024, Brown checked into Tru by Hilton in Orangeburg after separating from her husband in July.
Bamberg says her husband was able to track her down, and in spite of not being registered at the hotel was provided a key and her room number.
At 3:45 in the morning, Bamberg says the husband entered the room and for several hours held Brown against her will and violently assaulted her.
Bamberg adds that guests in other rooms called, and even went to the desk to report hearing Brown’s screams but no assistance was ever provided.
Ultimately, Bamberg says Brown was able to escape and flag down an Orangeburg County deputy who ensured her safety.
The hotel in question, Tru by Hilton Orangeburg is an independently owned and operated location according to Hilton.
ABC Columbia spoke with a manager at Tru by Hilton Orangeburg who declined to comment on the lawsuit.
