SCDSS: SC pausing childcare scholarships

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)–  A major funding shortfall led the state to pause applications and renewals for many child care scholarships.

Earlier this month, state leaders say families currently receiving scholarships will not lose their benefits.

SC Department of Social Services officials say that while South Carolina is limiting who can apply or renew, this is one of the few states not terminating payments for families already enrolled in year long scholarships.

Right now, DSS serves more than 24,000 children and spends more than $20 million a month on scholarships.
