U.S. bans new foreign drone models
(CNN)– A new rule by the Federal Communications Commission essentially bans the next generation of Chinese-made drones.
The drones have dominated U.S. skies for years.
They are used for things like infrastructure and construction inspections, crop monitoring, professional and hobbyist videography, and even finding lost children and pets.
However, since 2017 the foreign-made drones have been deemed a cybersecurity risk to national security.
Now, the FCC has banned the import sale and use of all new drone models made by foreign manufacturers including the world’s largest drone maker DJI.
