COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Columbia Police Department says investigators have charged a man in connection with an isolated fatal shooting that happened during the Christmas holiday.

Chief W.H. “Skip” Holbrook says that CPD officers, including the Fugitive Team located and arrested 35-year-old Tony Middleton on Monday, Dec. 29, on Santee Avenue without incident.

CPD officers responded in the 7000 block of Bailey Street at the Colony Apartments shortly after 12:30 a.m. on December 26 (the day after Christmas).

When police arrived to the scene, they found a male in the roadway with no signs of life.

EMS arrived to the scene and pronounced him deceased.

A gun was also recovered during the arrest of Middleton, say investigators.

Law enforcement say police will work to determine if the gun seized was used to commit the initial crime.

Middleton will be housed at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center (ASGDC), and charged with murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and possession of a weapon by a
prohibited person.
