MTV music channels no longer on air

(CNN)– After 40 years on air, MTV’s music only channels are now a thing of the past.

Those channels went dark Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026, and it ended just as it began with the music video “Video Killed The Radio Star” by the Buggles.

The channel is still on the air in the United States, however it recently canceled the popular shows Catfish and Ridiculousness.
