Sumter Co. coroner identifies person who died after stabbing

SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Sumter County Coroner Robert Baker has identified a 45-year-old after he died at a hospital.

Officials say Rodney Herrington died at Prisma Health Tuomey after receiving a stabbing wound.

According to the coroner’s office, the stabbing happened around 7:30 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2026.

An autopsy will be performed on Thursday at the Medical University in Charleston.

The Sumter County Coroner’s Office, and the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
