RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– RCSD Sheriff Leon Lott says a 35-year-old woman was arrested after causing a disturbance at a grocery store over the weekend.
According to RCSD, deputies responded on Sunday, Jan.4, around 1 p.m. to a Publix grocery store located at 4611 Hardscrabble Road in relation to a call about a disturbance.
Cardesha Gilmore is accused of refusing to leave the store after employees asked her to leave.
Gilmore is also accused of urinating openly in the front of the store.
When deputies arrived to the grocery store and attempted to speak with her, she left on foot.
Deputies chased after Gilmore while instructing her to stop, says RCSD.
She continued into traffic on Hardscrabble Road before complying with deputies to stop.
After speaking with Publix employees, deputies were able to determine that Gilmore was attempting to steal four packs of steaks before being confronted by employees.
Publix employees provided video surveillance of the attempted shoplifting and her urinating on the floor of the store.
Also, the sheriff’s department says when deputies attempted to identify Gilmore at the scene, she attempted to flee from deputies again before being placed into a patrol car.
Gilmore is also accused of trying to kick one of the deputies in the face, while being placed in the patrol car.
She was identified as Cardesha Gilmore while at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, because deputies say she was uncooperative with providing her identity while at the store.
Gilmore is charged with indecent exposure, shoplifting under $2000, public disorderly conduct, pedestrian unlawfully in the roadway, and assault while resisting arrest.
She was given surety bonds for her offenses totaling $17,640, and is still currently detained at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
