RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– RCSD says a deputy was in his patrol car when he was hit by another driver while working extra duty at a road construction site.
The collision happened on Monday, Jan. 5, 2026, on I-126 west near the entrance ramp from Colonial Life Boulevard around 11:15 p.m.
Officials say Deputy Jordan Knight was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries and then released.
Additionally, 64-year-old David Dudley, who investigators say was the driver declined EMS.
The construction crew was unharmed.
“We are very fortunate that our deputy is okay and no workers were killed that night, when you see flashing lights, SLOW DOWN,” says Sheriff Lott.
