Person who died due to fatal hit-and-run on Sunday has been identified, said the coroner’s office.

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– The person who died due to a fatal hit-and-run on Sunday has been identified, said the coroner’s office.

According to the Richland County Coroner’s Office, the Sunday, January 11, 2026, hit-and-run took place on North Main Street at the on-ramp to Interstate 20.

Richland County Coroner Naida Rutherford identified the victim as Joshua A. Smith, 29, of Columbia.

“We will continue working with the Columbia Police Department to fully investigate this crash. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone impacted.” Coroner Rutherford stated.

The case remains under investigation.
