Casino gambling bill recommitted at State house
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– A proposal which would’ve paved the way for legalizing casinos in South Carolina has been stopped in its tracks.
Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2026, House Majority Leader Davey Hiott recommitted the bill to the House Ways and Means Committee.
Effectively forcing it to go back to the beginning of the legislative process.
Supporters say the plan could’ve generated recurring revenue without raising taxes by capturing money currently spent in neighboring states.
But critics like the Palmetto Family Alliance say the bill would’ve led to predatory gambling and other social consequences.
