Warming centers opening in the Midlands

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Warming centers are opening up in the Midlands for need of shelter from the possible Winter storm that might impact the Midlands.

People in the Midlands looking to keep warm can take a look at the list of warming stations below:

ORANGEBURG:

City of Orangeburg officials say a warming shelter is opening up due to expected inclement weather.

The warming shelter will be located at the City Gym on 410 Broughton Street, and will operate from Friday, January 30 at 7 p.m. until Monday, February 2 until 8 a.m. (possibly longer pending conditions).

Service animals are allowed inside the shelter, but other pets are not allowed.

NEWBERRY:

Newberry County officials say due to ongoing impacts from Winter Storm Gianna, Newberry County Emergency Management has activated an emergency shelter at Gallman Elementary School on 255 Hawkins Road in Newberry.

The shelter will open at 5 p.m. on Friday, January 30, 2026, and will remain open until the weather has passed.
