Landmark social media trial begins
(CNN)– Testimony in the landmark social media addiction trial in California started Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2026.
The head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri testified in a Los Angeles superior courtroom.
Mosseri was asked whether Instagram hooks young users.
He said he doesn’t think users can be, “clinically addicted” to the app, though he acknowledged that “problematic use” was possible.
The trial comes after a now-20-year-old woman filed a lawsuit against Youtube and Instagram’s parent company Meta.
She alleges the companies deliberately developed addictive features to get young people hooked, and that her mental health has been harmed as a result.
