Sumter Co. coroner identifies pedestrian killed after Valentine’s Day collision
SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Sumter Co. Coroner Robert Baker has identified a pedestrian who was killed after a Valentine’s Day collision, says the coroner’s office.
The collision happened on Sat, Feb. 14, 2026, on E Red Road at the bridge around 7 p.m.
Coroner Baker identified the pedestrian as 54-year-old Ernest McCants.
McCants died at the scene from injuries he received when hit by a vehicle.
His autopsy will be performed on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2026, at the Medical University in Charleston.
Sumter Co. Coroner’s Office, and SC Highway Patrol is investigating.
