SLED charges teen with murder after fatal shooting on SC State campus

ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is charging a teen with murder after a fatal shooting on SC State University’s campus.

Khamanti Lytrel Kennedy, 18, was charged with murder on Tues, Feb. 17, 2026, after a shooting that happened on the school’s campus over Valentine’s Day weekend.

On Thurs, Feb. 12, 2026, a shooting happened at SC State where two people were killed and one person was injured.

SLED agents say the shooting happened inside a room in the Hugine Suites housing complex, and three people were shot.

Two of the teens died, and one is being treated for his injuries at a hospital.

The deceased teens were identified by the Orangeburg County Coroner’s Office as Henry L. Crittington, 19, and Terrell Thomas, 18.

Investigators say Kennedy purchasing weed led to the shooting.

After the shooting happened, he was seen on camera leaving the area on foot.

Also, investigators say Kennedy arrived to the campus with three people in his vehicle, and was seen on camera entering Hugine Suites together.

A moment later after their arrival, SLED says they exited the building and walked towards Kennedy’s vehicle and got items from inside of them.

Kennedy was booked into the Orangeburg County Detention Center.

After the shooting, university officials announced new safety measures for entering and leaving the campus.

SLED’s investigation is active and ongoing at this time.
