Gullah Geechee Artist Corey Alston unveils Big Percy

 

 

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Sweetgrass baskets are part of the cultural history of South Carolina and now there is a big example of one at the SC State Museum.

This morning, Thurs, Feb. 19,  museum officials and Gullah Geechee Artist Corey Alston unveiled Big Percy.

Alston says it is the largest sweetgrass basket he has ever created.

Big Percy will be on display in the museum’s Lipscomb Art Gallery now through the end of September.
