Activists gather at State House in support of SC Parental Rights Act
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– State lawmakers, parents, and activists gathered at the State House Wednesday morning, March 11, 2026, in support of the South Carolina Parental Rights Act.
The bill would increase parents’ roles in public school policy and decision making when it comes to curriculum as well as healthcare decisions.
Supporters say parents have a fundamental right to have a voice in their children’s upbringing.
Those who oppose the legislation, including the ACLU, say the vague language in this bill poses the danger of teachers and administrators suppressing their speech in classrooms and censoring their teaching materials, leaving children with a subpar education.
