SB: No. 23 Gamecocks Earn Third Straight Walk-Off win to Sweep Eagles
COLUMBIA, S.C. – For the third straight game the 23rd ranked South Carolina softball team (19-10) earned the walk-off win over Boston College (9-18) with a 2-1 win to secure the series sweep Sunday morning (Mar. 15).
Quincee Lilio and Karley Shelton both had two hits on the day. Emma Friedel (8-3) earned the win in relief, tossing 3 2-3 scoreless inning, allowing one hit while striking out five. Nealy Lamb started in the circle and allowed one run on two hits.
The Gamecocks loaded the bases in the first on back-to-back hits from Lilio and Shelton and hit by pitch to Tate Davis. South Carolina had a baserunner on in every inning, however, it was unable to push a run across until the seventh.
Boston College’s only run came on a leadoff home run in the third inning.
In the bottom of the seventh, Lilio led off with a single, but the next two batters were retired. Down to their final strike, Tori Ensley hit a hard line drive to the right center gap for a triple and scoring Lilio all the way from first. Two pitches later Tate Davis walked it off for the Gamecocks with a single to center, sending the dugout onto the field in celebration when Ensley touched home.
It’s the first time for Carolina since February 21-22, 2025, with three straight walk off wins.
South Carolina continues its homestand when it hosts Georgia Southern Wednesday at 6 p.m.
