Gamecocks fall in Friday contest to No. 4 Arkansas
COLUMBIA – No. 4 Arkansas scored runs in each of the first six innings on its way to a 22-6, seven-inning win over the University of South Carolina baseball team Friday night (March 20) at Founders Park in the SEC home opener for the Gamecocks.
Arkansas hit six home runs on the night and scored at least two runs in each of the first six frames. Maika Niu had two of the home runs to go along with six RBI and four runs scored.
KJ Scobey hit a two-run home run in the fourth to get Carolina on the board. Luke Yuhasz followed with a two-run shot of his own in the same frame for a four-run inning for the Gamecocks. Jake Randolph had a two-run home run in the seventh, his first as a Gamecock.
Scobey, Yuhasz and Tyler Bak led the team with two hits apiece on the night. Josh Gunther took the loss, giving up six hits and nine runs in 2.1 innings with five strikeouts.
POSTGAME NOTES
- The Gamecocks had nine hits on the night.
- Carolina used six pitchers, including the Gamecock debut for Bryce Navarre.
