Gamecocks drop first game of Palmetto Series
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The No. 23 South Carolina softball team (21-13) fell to Clemson (23-10) 8-0 Wednesday night (Mar. 25) in the first game of the Palmetto Series Presented by the SC Education Lottery.
Quincee Lilio had two of Carolina’s four hits, going 2-for-3 on the night. Alyssa Hovermale and Shae Anderson each added a hit. Nealy Lamb (4-5) took the loss after allowing four runs through 1-3 of an inning.
The Tigers jumped out to an early lead in the first, scoring four runs on five hits. The Tigers added another in the second. They would add one run apiece in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to build their lead.
South Carolina’s best opportunity came in the fifth when Hovermale and Anderson had back-to-back singles with two outs.
The Gamecocks head out for their first SEC road series of the season as they take on No. 12 Mississippi State beginning March 28. Game one is set for 3 p.m. ET.
