Meta, Youtube found liable for addiction

(CNN)– A California jury delivered a crushing blow today (March 25, 2026) to Meta and Youtube.

It found both companies liable on all counts of intentionally addicting a young woman to their platforms and injuring her mental health.

Now 20-year-old Kaley said she developed anxiety, body dysmorphia, and suicidal thoughts after using them.

The court ordered the companies to pay $3 million.

Meta is responsible for 70% of that, and Youtube 30%.

The decision could set a precedent for hundreds of other cases working their way through courts.
