KCSO: High speed chase lands man in jail
KERSHAW COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– A Columbia man is behind bars after a high-speed pursuit that happened in two counties, said Kershaw Co. deputies.
Around 2:35 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, March 31, 2026, a Kershaw County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a gray Toyota Camry on White Pond Road in Elgin.
The driver who was later identified as 36-year-old Isaac Timothy Carter refused to stop.
Which then led to a pursuit with deputies onto I-20 West toward Richland County.
Deputies say during the chase, Carter reached speeds of 100 mph and hit the side of a passing motorist’s vehicle.
The pursuit continued until Carter exited the interstate at Clemson Road, and eventually drove into a residential neighborhood, according to the sheriff’s office.
After reaching a dead-end road, Carter abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot.
KCSO K9 Sam was deployed and quickly closed the gap, apprehending the suspect within seconds.
Carter was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of a K9 bite before being booked into custody.
“I am very thankful Mr. Carter didn’t injure any citizens, and his only injury was the K9 bite to his leg. Running from law enforcement is foolish. He will get to spend April Fool’s Day where he belongs… in jail. Actions have consequences,” said Sheriff Lee Boan.
He is being charged with trafficking methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, failure to stop for a blue light, and resisting arrest.
Kershaw Co. Sheriff’s Office said there are other charges pending, and he is being held at the Kershaw County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
