Millions spent on misinformation on site ads
(CNN)– A new study reveals that reputable health groups are unintentionally funding medical misinformation.
Researchers at Yale University found that health and government organizations accounted for more than 10% of ad revenue on websites promoting misinformation.
Between 2021 and 2024, millions of dollars in ad spending landed on unreliable sites, often inadvertently.
Groups say that’s because automated programs can place credible ads next to harmful content.
The study warns these ad placements can legitimize false claims and diminish public trust in government health agencies.
