State Epidemiologist retires from SC Dept. of Public Health

Columbia, S.C. (WOLO)– Officials with the SC Department of Public Health have confirmed to ABC Columbia News that State Epidemiologist Dr. Linda Bell has retired.

Interim Agency Director Dr. Edward Simmer says, “For nearly 33 years, Dr. Bell held various positions throughout her career with DPH and our legacy agency, DHEC. We are grateful for Dr. Bell’s outstanding, decades-long service to the people of South Carolina and the lasting impacts of her work. We wish Dr. Bell much success in her future endeavors.”

Dr. Bell became a well-known public figure during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 sharing regular media updates as well as during the recent outbreak of the measles in the Upstate.
