Southwest Airlines says portable chargers limited on planes

(CNN)– Southwest Airlines is going to start limiting portable chargers on its flights.

The company says the chargers pose a risk of causing fires in-flight.

Starting April 20th, passengers are allowed only one lithium battery, powered portable charger in their carry-on baggage.

The charger must be stored under seats or on the passenger, as opposed to overhead bins, and can’t be recharged using in-seat outlets during flights.

The FAA says there have been over a dozen lithium battery incidents this year involving smoke, fire, or extreme heat.
