USPS pauses pension contributions

(CNN)–The U.S. Postal Service says it’s implementing a cash conservation plan.

It tells the Office of Personnel Management it intends to suspend employer contributions to workers’ pensions Friday, April 10.

The USPS Chief Financial Officer says otherwise, postal operations could suffer.

Mail carrier unions say they have ideas to address the agency’s money problems.

For instance, they want an increase in borrowing authority, and changes to the pension investment strategy.
